Southern Cross’ $11m hospital expansion is complete, with electrical works by ICE Electrical.

The expansion connects the existing operating theatre suite and the East Ward, plus adds two new operating theatres, another 12 bed unit and a 13 chair day stay unit, to the hospital.

Project Manager John Westell says the 18 month long development required areas of demolition, alteration and refurbishment, as well as new construction.

“All patient areas were wired as Body or Cardiac protected areas, all socket outlets were protected by medical grade RCD’s so there were some very unique aspects to this job,” John says.

“We installed the world’s most advanced and simple automatic monitoring and testing system- the Hive Mesh System- to achieve the necessary emergency lighting.

“We achieved optimum lighting control using a DALI 2 compliant system to incorporate monitoring and testing functionality. It also gives the client the best for their needs.”

ICE Electrical has a long working history with Southern Cross Hospital. We first began working with them in 2007.
