Hāwera Star
The iconic Hawera Star building, owned by Excel Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Ltd, is now a bespoke state of the art administration hub.
Excel purchased the 120 year old heritage building from Stuff Media in 2016. It was leaky and earthquake-prone.
It required extensive remodelling. All lighting and air conditioning is automated using Konnex (KNX) technology – a control system which supports products from various manufacturers, so that they work together seamlessly.
Using KNX ensures that the lighting consumes low quantities of energy, by dimming unoccupied areas and the ability to harvest daylight.
Another benefit of KNX is that its remote access functionality cuts down maintenance and alteration time, ensuring the best results for the client.
KNX also supports meeting room scheduling, synchronising to their calendars and space booking systems, streamlining flows and greater team organisation.
The office space is now an energy efficient earthquake safe example of modern automation which also preserves unique historical aspects such as the protected concrete frontage, decorative original ceilings, roof beams and visible printing press supports.
